Compensation Energy

The methodology for calculating the daily imbalance prices has been prescribed by the German federal regulator Bundesnetzagentur in its administrative ruling BK7-14-020 (“Gabi Gas 2.0”), according to which imbalance prices must be determined based on an analysis of marginal prices.

Accordingly, the positive imbalance price for any given gas day (= marginal buy price) is the higher of:

  • the highest price of all system balancing buy transactions the market area manager has entered into for that gas day on a within-day or day-ahead basis for delivery of gas at the virtual trading point (merit order rank 1) or for exchange-traded quality-specific products offered in the market area manager's own or an adjacent market area (merit order rank 2)
    and
  • the weighted average price of gas determined for that gas day on the PEGAS trading platform plus two per cent

The negative imbalance price for any given gas day (= marginal sell price) is the lower of:

  • the lowest price of all system balancing sell transactions the market area manager has entered into for that gas day on a within-day or day-ahead basis for delivery of gas at the virtual trading point (merit order rank 1) or for exchange-traded quality-specific products offered in the market area manager's own or an adjacent market area (merit order rank 2)
    and
  • the weighted average price of gas determined for that gas day on the PEGAS trading platform less two per cent

Reconciliation quantities for RLM

According to the calorific value correction of RLM exit points (RLM reconciliation quantities) differential quantities arising from the initial and final quantity allocation of a balancing group. GASPOOL will invoice the differential quantities to the balancing group manager. The following applies:

  • The RLM reconciliation quantities is determined on a daily basis to the end of the clearing process.
  • The weighted average price of gas (VTP index) is used for reconciliation. This is applied to both higher and lower quantities arising from calorific value correction.

The daily prices for reconciliation quantities are available at “final values” in the VTP index column.

Transportation markup/markdown from 1 April 2020

With regard to the determination of the National Regulatory Agency (BNetzA) on gas balancing (Az. BK7-14-020 "GaBi Gas 2.0") are incurred transportation costs regarding to procurement of balancing energy of products of merit order list rank 2 to be considered. These costs are considered as a markup/markdown in the determination of the daily imbalance charges. The transport markup will be added to the purchase price when balancing energy is procured in the adjacent market area. The transport markdown will be subtracted from the sell price when balancing energy is sold in the adjacent market area.
